Every year, Important cases are reviewed at different hospitals

in Southwestern Ontario.

The Maternal, Newborn, Child and Youth Network (MNCYN) hosts annual virtual paediatric case rounds in collaboration with regional partner organizations that offer paediatric programs. As medical experts from the tertiary care centre, the Paediatric Consultants from Children's Hospital, LHSC contribute their expertise to these rounds, which use open discussion to review anonymously presented cases. The focus is on patient history, clinical management, and identifying opportunities to improve future care.

Cases are selected through participant surveys, direct hospital requests, planning meetings, and consultation with clinical experts. Cases often involve transfers to the tertiary care centre (Children's Hospital, LHSC) in London but may also originate from host hospital requests seeking guidance on complex or unique cases. Each session is tailored to the learning needs of the host organization, drawing from previous evaluations, current literature, healthcare data (e.g., BORN Ontario), and regional quality assurance findings. These collaborative rounds aim to strengthen clinical practice and support continuous quality improvement in paediatric care across the region.

The MNCYN Paediatric Case Rounds are an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by Continuing Professional Development, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. Participants may claim a maximum of 2.0 hours. (Credits are automatically calculated).

Participants typically include paediatricians, emergency medicine physicians, registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, educators, and hospital leadership.
